TriciaCallow wrote It isn't Blackwood when the last bid was NT. Use Gerber 4C to ask for Aces.
TriciaCallow wrote Well, who's a silly girl, then. I worked it all out, went for 7NT, worked out how to make 13 tricks ...... then threw a instead of a ♠.

TriciaCallow wrote @IVY121 Curiously, my Hint said to bid 3S, and if you do, yes, N passes. That's because N has "nothing extra" - although he's got 5 ♠s, they're not very good and he's only got 12 HCP. So he can't bid on. I ignored the Hint and bid 2C because that shows 10 points and N has to rebid. When he bids 2♠ I know he's got 5 and I know we've got a really good ♠ fit so I'm the one that needs to go to game.
tessybear wrote @IVY121 - I would normally reason the same as @TriciaCallow but this time I went directly to 4, as my instincts took over. I agree with @banksia9 , I knew I won because the opposition did not play their 's and I was grateful for that. Making 4.

TriciaCallow wrote @tessybear it doesn't show my bidding conventions on a Reply, but I play 4-card majors - that's the only reason I had to ask one more question before going to game.

TriciaCallow wrote One fascinating thing about this hand is that those who bid 6NT made 12 tricks, and those who bid less than 6NT didn't. That's the other way round from usual. Was it because when defending a slam W leads A♠ which is just what S wants? Like @banksia, I just wish I'd been brave enough to bid a slam of any sort.

graeme wrote Just hearts, @TriciaCallow. It's nice to have something in the other suit, too, of course, but the emphasis is on the unbid major.
