TriciaCallow wrote I've got L-plates on when it comes to the Losing Trick Count (LTC). I was going to bid 3♠ after North's 1♠ because I've only got 8 losers (24-(7+8) = 15 tricks). North, who only has 5 losers, could then go 4♠. But I lost my nerve because jumping to the 3-level in partner's suit implies 10 or 11 HCPs so I just bid 2♠. Which is a shame, because I made the game. Any advice for Confused of the UK? @graeme @tina

TriciaCallow wrote You don't need the 4th . E chucks a ♠ on the last trump round so you make 4 ♠ tricks, 10 in all. Sadly, I only made 8 tricks first time ... because I didn't notice the J of trumps falling and thought it was still out!
Chance22 wrote Thanks @JOHNkib
Giving up the lead before drawing clubs certainly has a lot going for it when we have stoppers everywhere. Although my thinking was not this precise, I was afraid East might have a heart doubleton by the way she played her hearts (also 4-2 split a bit more likely than 3-3). Then if West got the lead he would play a heart for ruffing. So I stumbled around with the clubs. But there’s only a 50% chance that West even has the ♠A.

Now, if East had played a diamond instead of a club would that have screwed us up I wonder, with the 4-2 club split. Hmmmm. It is so helpful when people share the way they played and we don’t have to play 100 times ourselves to get a different view. Your line went as smooth as silk. And thanks to @TriciaCallow for pointing out the crucial spade discard.
