Partner should be aware that when west trumps a diamond and east has no diamonds , there is no point leading another diamond as it will be trumped.

@sharp Even worse, it’s a “ruff and discard”, meaning declarer not only gets to win that trick but also has the chance to toss a loser.

Stayed out of the bidding until E-W appeared to stop at 3C with no diamond bids along the way. I felt a try at 3D was reasonable and it might push E-W to 4C. E’s DK was trapped, and I got a ruff in dummy and two in hand to make 9. I see someone made 10, but I was happy with my result.
Bidding System: 5 card majors, strong notrump, strong twos, transfers.

I am right there with @george46 . I don’t think I would pull a stunt like that in real bridge play. But in this instance — it worked out!

Yay was able to finesse the K of D and still have trump in dummy to trump club losers. Lost 1 D, 1 H, and 2 S. Wow, got same score as @hund, @top-dog and @crunchie. Walking on cloud 9! woo hoo!

@lynng. @hund barks woo hoo on this one rather than his usual woof woof

  8. Thought I was making a sacrifice bid, but in the end made 3 D; partner’s two aces helped as did the fact he had close to opening points.

I am a firm believer in overcalling on light values when you can do so cheaply, the suit is good and your call will have good lead-directing implications for partner if the opener (on your right) should end up declaring. All those conditions apply here. Made three by realizing that E needed a couple of Kings for opening, but with three the opening would have been 1 NT (and with 4, W would have had no response). Since the black Ks with E would have done me no good, I assumed E’s two Ks were the red ones and played accordingly.
