Be a Nuisance!

-

When the opponents have opened, we have many tools in our bidding arsenals for interrupting their auction. One especially good one is the jump overcall. Instead of bidding your suit at the cheapest level to show five or more cards, bid your suit one level higher if you have six cards and a mediocre hand. Taking up an extra level of bidding space can spell doom for your opponents. It also provides your partner with a good description of your hand, and helps him know how high to compete. Watch as Tina manages to rob the other side of their profitable spades contract with a jump overcall!

It pays to be a nuisance. Make as much trouble as you can for your opponents!

I thought they would struggle in 4 spades so bid on to 4 diamonds. As it stands not such a bad sacrifice it could have made had I played with greater care.

Hmm. I thought that the diamonds were too strong to pass on the first round. Opponents made their contract — but our score came out better than some others. I think Baygon is right. The sacrifice at 4 d is the best route to go. But I had already bid the diamonds — twice. So I figured it was up to north to take it up to that level.

    EW 2S, 9 tricks
    Opening Lead: North A

    SIGNALS
I’m not sure how the computer responds to various signals (of which I know very few) but first time through I played the 4 on Partner’s opening A and Partner switched to hearts. EW made 9. Second time, being alerted by @gupgop to possible diamond ruffs, I played the 9 on trick #1. To that, Partner responded with his second diamond and we kept EW to 8.
